Transfer iPhone backup to another computer

First thing in 2013- iPhone stopped working!; managed to fixed it now, but expect several iPhone related posts as I record here what I have learnt. Hopefully this will help others who are experiencing similar misfortunes.

After getting my iTunes and everything else to work, one of the most important step that I came to appreciate is Back up. You can find the backup function under the "Summary" tab once you connected your iPhone to iTunes.

The backups are stored on the machine and can be used to restore your iPhone data and settings (including contacts and messages) at a later date. But what if I buy a new laptop?

Found these simple step on SALON:

Step 1
Connect a flash drive or external hard drive to your old computer.

Step 2
Click on the "Finder" icon and navigate to the "Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup" folder if you are Mac user.

If you are a Windows user, open the Start menu, click on "Computer" and then navigate to the "C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" directory.

Step 3
Select all backups by holding down the "Command-A" keys if you are on a Mac. In Windows, press "Ctrl-A."

Step 4
Drag and drop all of the backup folders to your flash drive or external hard drive.

Step 5
Eject your flash drive or external hard drive and plug it in to your new computer.

Step 6
Repeat Step 2 on your new computer and then drag the backup folders from your flash drive or external hard drive to the "Backup" directory on your new computer.
