We Might All Need to Think About the Three Body Problem

Image
Introduction: A New Frontier in Sci-Fi Netflix’s new series "Three Body Problem," based on the critically acclaimed novel by Liu Cixin, is not just another science fiction saga; it’s a thought-provoking narrative that delves into the complexities of physics, humanity, and extraterrestrial life. As we delve into this series, we might find that its story isn't as far-fetched as it seems. In fact, the themes and scenarios presented might be alarmingly close to our potential future.   Note: This post is not meant to worry readers. It simply highlights that the universe is more complex than it seems, and there is much we still don't understand about our world. So, the next time we fight over power, politics, religion, economy, or resources, let's remember how insignificant these arguments are in the grand scheme of things in this vast universe. Disney's Percy Jackson: A Quick Review

Image
Overall Impression of Season One Upon completing Season 1 of Disney's Percy Jackson, my feelings are overwhelmingly positive. The series is a visual treat, boasting superb performances from its young cast members. The artistic direction and musical accompaniments in the credit sequences are executed with finesse, adding depth to each episode's conclusion. There's an undeniable aura of adventure reminiscent of the Harry Potter series, enhanced by the incorporation of Greek mythology. This fusion creates a captivating narrative, particularly appealing to young audiences navigating their own paths. With the rich tapestry of Rick Riordan's book series to draw from, Disney appears to have unearthed a winning formula sure to endure. Delving into Greek Mythology in Book One Book One of Percy Jackson immerses readers in the world of Greek mythology, seamlessly blending ancient legends with modern-day storytelling. From encounters with Medusa to confrontations with the Minotaur,...

Rich Dad Poor Dad - a must read for all young adults

It has been 26 years since this book was first published. Yet, I still find myself going back to revise its contents repeatedly. The basic principles help me focus my thoughts and remind me of the lessons I learned from this book regarding personal finance. It is one of the best gifts to give children as they grow into adulthood before they manage their finances. But unfortunately, these lessons are still not taught enough at schools today. For society to tackle the tough challenges we see today, be it bringing down the national debt, job creation, pension deficit, widening wealth inequality, young people can't get on the property ladder, jobs being replaced by machine learning and AI, inflation, financial instability etc., we need future generations to be better educated financially. And there is no better book to start than Rich Dad Poor Dad.  It is written in simple, accessible language, using anecdotes and personal experience to guide the reader; this book is easy to read and s...

Can you buy ebooks from Waterstones to read on Kindle?

Image
I went to the book shop today and found a new book by Paulo Coelho called Adultery that looked quite interesting. His way of writing really appeals to me, mainly because he shows that simple, uncomplicated language can tell the most captivating stories. This simple style is perhaps most suited to his stories which often carry deeper life meanings of some sort. It allows the reader to conserve mental stamina and capacity in order to contemplate the meanings behind the stories as they unfold. Although that is not the reason I started this post. After reading the first few pages of the book, I wanted to get it on my Kindle. I asked the shop assistant at Waterstones whether it is possible to buy ebooks which will work on Kindle e-readers. To my dismay, I had my suspicions confirmed - you can only get Kindle books from Amazon :( Personally, I prefer to retain the freedom as a consumer to support the traditional book shops once in a while. There are workaround solutions for this (if it'...
