Transfer iPhone backup to another computer

Image
First thing in 2013- iPhone stopped working!; managed to fixed it now, but expect several iPhone related posts as I record here what I have learnt. Hopefully this will help others who are experiencing similar misfortunes. After getting my iTunes and everything else to work, one of the most important step that I came to appreciate is Back up . You can find the backup function under the "Summary" tab once you connected your iPhone to iTunes. The backups are stored on the machine and can be used to restore your iPhone data and settings (including contacts and messages) at a later date. But what if I buy a new laptop?  Transfer iPhone backup to another computer Found these simple step on SALON : Step 1 Connect a flash drive or external hard drive to your old computer.  Step 2   Click on the "Finder" icon and navigate to the "Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup" folder if you are Mac user.  If you are

How to Setup Google Calendar on Your iPhone

Image
Somehow, over the past couple of years, I've ended up owning more smartphone devices than I really need. At the time of writing this post, I owned 1 iPhone, 1 iPad, 1 Android phone, and 1 Android tablet (I have since given some of them to family members). Most of these were gifts or upgrades from my existing phone contracts and didn't really cost me anything. As the year draws to a close, it's usually the time when I take a walk to the town center, visit my local stationary shop, and find myself a good diary for the next year. I would then head home, with a cup of tea, and start transferring information from my current diary to the new one. However, this year, I have not yet bought my new diary. Looking at my gadgets across the table, I realize it may be time to embrace the electronic calendar and make it accessible across all the different devices I own. Google Calendar came to mind right away. I prefer apps that allow seamless access with just about any device connec

Change file extension/ file type in Windows 7

Image
You may have come across this problem before. You have just downloaded a file but your computer does not recognise it, possibly due to unknown extension of the file. You tried to change the file name and add a .xxx on to change the extension but it doesn't work? Well, it happened to me 5 minutes ago. The problem is that file extensions are hidden most of the time. The .xxx name change is being interpreted as part of the file name rather than the actual extension. To do this I had to first revel the file extensions. 1. Open up any folder. 2. At the top left corner, click on " Organize "> Folder and search options > View 3. Un-tick "Hide Extension for known file types". You should now see all the file extensions of all the files on your computer. You can then change this to .rar or .zip ... according to your need. Can't believe I forgot how to do this..., good that I have it written down now..lol

If this then that (IFTTT) - create powerful connections between applications

Image
This next post I am about to write is still shocking my brain (as I think about it). The simplicity and powerfulness of this idea is probably going to sweep the rest of the world off the feet.  Global Internet usage has been growing quite dramatically around the world (click on the map below to see the video on the BBC website). Our everyday life has changed quite a lot in the past few decades. From emails to blogs, twitter and facebook, online news to dropbox, the Internet plays a very significant part of our day to day life and we spend a lot of time on these applications, whether using our laptop, desktops, tablets or mobile phones. You may have just checked your facebook a few minutes ago, created a tweet to tell the world an exciting news you wanted to share, sent out a work email to your boss or a greeting card to a friend, uploaded some files to dropbox as backup... That is a lot of activities, no wonder your company is complaining you spend too much time procrastinating!

Why do companies go to Science Parks or Research Parks?

Image
Good question, let's do some web search.. Innovation for business A research park , science park , or science and technology park is an area with a collection of buildings dedicated to scientific research on a business footing. Typically businesses and organizations in the parks focus on product advancement and innovation as opposed to industrial parks that focus on manufacturing and business parks that focus on administration. For Companies :   1. Benefit from built facilities and infrastructures A Research Park offers considerable advantages to hosted companies, by reducing overhead costs for facilities such as office and lab areas, uninterruptible power supply, telecommunications hubs, reception and security, management offices, restaurants, banks, convention center, parking, internal transportation, entertainment and sports facilities...etc. 2. Benefit from unique R&D resources (both human expertise and facility access) Research Parks can a

Research and Development (R&D)

Image
I have been looking into the world of R&D, and the role it plays in our economy. This post like many others can expand overtime as it is a rather big topic, but I shall begin by finding some of the basic definitions... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is R&D? R&D refers to specific activities within a business. R&D activities differ from company to company, but there are perhaps two primary focuses:  1. To develop new products;  2. To discover and create new knowledge about scientific and technological topics for the purpose of uncovering and enabling development of valuable new products, processes, and services. Why R&D? R&D can involve some uncertainty as to the return on investment (ROI); researchers do not know in advance exactly how to accomplish the desired result. Higher R&D spending does not guarantee "more creativity, higher profit or a gr
