Cute Polar Bear Cub

Why do we find some things or animals "cute"? Is it a natural instinct or is it influenced by what we were taught by parents and the media? Evolutionarily speaking we shouldn't find polar bears cute right? because that would be dangerous... Still, this is very cute :)

Useful Drones and Augmented Reality Tech for Checking Planes

Image
A fully automated flying drone that can do a complete scan of an aircraft without human involvement. The information can then be recorded digitally for future reference and to allow engineers to access these data interactively through augmented reality glasses. This is great! Here is the original report from BBC News. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-27314262 However, this is also an example where traditional labour intensive work are now gradually replaced by machines and technologies. People need to explore into more creative and innovative industries, and use the one asset that robots will have a hard time catching up in the future - imagination.

Is it safe to sell your old computer?

Image
You want to sell your computer or tablets. You wiped your data from your hard drive for extra security. That should be enough right? Well, according to some reports, it seems like deleting your personal data forever completely and thoroughly is almost impossible. Here are some of the bad news: 1. "normal deletion of files in your operating system of choice really only purges their respective file references. In the interest of performance, the actual data is left untouched on the drive -- with the space it occupies marked as empty." 2. "there are techniques and equipment that can recover data from hard drives that has been "wiped" over with zeroes or random bits." 3. " Techniques such as Magnetic force microsopy (MFM) make truly deleting data from magnetic media extremely difficult mainly because of the inability of the hard disk write head to write in the exact same location along the magnetic track." 4. Blogger App on Android and Free Photos for Blogs

Image
This is my first blog entry using my tablet. Just to test and see how well it works. The Blogger app doesn't seem to provide that many functions, which is a shame. Hopefully Google will include more functions for this app in future updates. Text entry and graphics editing works very well on the tablet. It is quite easy to grab, crop, and make changes to photos and images. I also found this website called Photo Pin, which offers bloggers many stunning photos to use in their posts for on a non-commercial basis. Great! Well, it's time to finish this short post. It's safe to say that I will be using the browser Blogger in the future rather than the app. It is not yet sufficiently user friendly. The text editing function has now disappeared, which is why my texts now is at the center like the images above. And I have no idea how to change the font size. it is also not clear how to add my usual labels to this post.. Slightly disappointing,  but it was fun

DISQUS - let people talk (comment) on your site

Came across this interesting looking video by chance. DISQUS is a commenting system that people can add to their websites to quickly allow viewers to comment and interact on shared topics and interests. I think it's rather clever. And I agree with the fact that although friends are great, they don't always share all the same intesrests as you, which is perhaps one of facebook's weakness (not to mention all the strangers that you added out of politeness in the first place!). DISQUS lets people that are searching for the same topics and websites to discuss and interact. Are your friends a bunch of (adorable) monkeys sometimes?  Look out for DISQUS on websites and join that interesting topic or intellectual discussion with (hopefully friendly) strangers.

My Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

Image
Just got a new tablet recently, very excited and happy with it so far. If you have not noticed from the previous post, I was not really happy with the previous tablet I had. My old tablet was slow and the Wifi connection was terrible, perhaps it was something to do with the device design. I decided to get a new Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition. Besides looking great, and a good screen size, it also has a lot of cool functionalities that makes it ideal for me to use it for work. It's good for web browsing, viewing online video clips, for me to make notes whilst watching online tutorials, keeping updated with news, checking emails, perform powerful photo edits.. all whilst I am on the move, and of course Blogging. Voice recognition seems to understand my English perfectly (seriously thinking about writing a book now that it's so easy to generate the text). And I am still impressed how well handwritten notes can be converted into neat digital form so seamlessly.
