Rethinking Loyalty Programs with a Big Data Brain

Image
"A wide new world of opportunity is possible if retailers put the proper analytics to work against the raw data they already possess." "Big data in loyalty programs is all about increasing precision. A retailer that has a good sense of what products will draw customers in and when may decide not to extend the 5 percent discount to particular customers. This can boost profits for the retailers without antagonizing the consumer." "By using big data, retailers can gain insight that helps them show the customer that they understand and know them as individuals and can even anticipate what they want." Well, I think it makes a lot of sense.  R ea d the full article here .

What does Wi-Fi stand for?

Image
If you're like me and still unclear on what Wi-Fi actually means beyond its basic function of connecting devices to the internet, here is a great summary. Definition Wi-Fi is a family of wireless network protocols based on the IEEE 802.11 standards. It's the most widely used computer networking technology in the world, allowing devices to exchange data through radio waves. The Wi-Fi Alliance defines Wi-Fi as  any "wireless local area network  (WLAN)  products that are based on the IEEE 802.11 standards .  However, since most modern WLANs are based on these  standards, the term "Wi-Fi" is used in general English as a synonym  for "WLAN". Connect to the Network A device that can use Wi-Fi (such as a personal computer, video-game console, smartphone, digital camera, or tablet can connect to a network resource such as the Internet via a wireless network access point. Such an access point (or hotspot) has a range of about 20 meters (65 feet) indoors and a gr

Sunscreen Slows Skin Aging?

I don't know about you, but I'd like to avoid looking old and saggy, even in my 50s! So when I read about the anti-aging effects of diligent sunscreen use, I was intrigued. Here's how it works: UV rays damage the elastic fibers under our skin over time. This leads to loss of firmness and snapback, eventually causing wrinkles and sagging. It's a slow process, but the damage builds up. Young people have mostly smooth skin with barely visible lines. Sun exposure creates a crosshatch pattern of lines as elasticity declines. The more unprotected sun damage, the more pronounced the wrinkles become. But comprehensive use of sunscreen preserves our precious facial elasticity. By blocking UV rays, it protects those supportive fibers from further harm. Just like wearing a seatbelt prevents injury in a crash. While sunscreen alone won't reverse existing sun damage, it can dramatically slow the aging process going forward. An ounce of prevention is truly worth a pound of cure w

Are smartphones disrupting your sleep?

This is a rather interesting article. I wonder if this is why I have trouble sleeping. I tend to watch silly Youtube vlogs before going to bed.. " One cause is believed to be the bright light-emitting diodes; light exposure can interfere with melatonin, a hormone that helps control the natural sleep-wake cycle."   Read the whole article here .
