Flight Compression Socks

I come across all sorts of wonderfully weird ideas from time to time. Some of them are actually common knowledge, but very few people take them seriously. I think this is possibly one of them.

How many of you wear compression socks regularly, or do you even know what they are? Here is a quick definition from Wikipedia: "Compression stockings are elastic garments worn around the leg, compressing the limb, exerting pressure against the legs, reducing the diameter of distended veins, and causing an increase in venous blood flow velocity and valve effectiveness. Compression therapy helps decrease venous pressure, prevents venous stasis and impairments of venous walls, and relieves heavy and aching legs."


This was recommended to me as I fly around on long-haul flights quite a lot or otherwise spend most of my time sitting down in the office. The socks are said to help increase blood flow in the legs during long periods of inactivity and reduce the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis.

So I decided to give them a go and have been surprised at how effective they are. You can feel your legs warming up from the increased blood flow from the moment you put them on (but make sure you follow the instructions on how to put them on so that you are not restricting blood flow instead!).

I should also mention a side story when I was buying those socks online. I ordered from two different sellers on Amazon just to compare the different brands (there are different compression factors, check before you buy). There was a problem and one of the orders never arrived. However, I was quite impressed with the after-sale care from this particular seller. The seller, Comfytopia, not only refunded my missing purchase but also offered to send me a free pair of socks! So, I promised I would write a review blog post to thank them. Below are the socks I ordered; both worked quite well for me.

I had a frustrating experience today with my UK trading platform, IWEB. Upon logging in this morning, I was startled to see a message that my account was restricted and to call a provided number.
