Banners and Amazon Associates

Searched and looked up a few blogs, searching for ideas on how to decorate and fill in my new blog. Many of them have banners and Uniersity of Liverpool advert on. A little reserach showed that Google's Adsense can display things automatically, based on the main theme of your blog. Sounds good - applied - then got rejected.. :(

Apparently you need to start writing before you can have this functionality. ("your site must contain enough text content for our specialists to review and for our crawlers to identify relevant ads to show on your pages.") I guess I will have to write a few posts first before trying that again.

Another popular option that came up was the Amazon associate, which let you display links to any amazon page.

Nice idea I suppose, after all I do get most of my things from amazon, so they will have pretty much what I have and recommend. So, joined Amazon associate, got accepted without trouble this time.

So, first task - tried to put up a MP3 player. They won't let you listen to the full song of course. But you all know where to look up "alternative sources". It has to be said, the prices of the music are actually much cheaper than how much they used to be, 89p is still affordable.

Playing around with the Widget option, finally I have some music on the blog:

woohoo! success.
Spent ages tweaking the size of the gadget and its location, which was a HTML nightmare, but that's another story.
